As many people know, Mackworth has always held a special place in my heart.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in Mackworth, attending Reigate Primary School before moving on to Murray Park School. Many of my childhood memories were made right here in the community that I am now proud to serve every day.
Over the years I’ve seen Mackworth change and grow, but what has always remained is the strong sense of community and the kindness of the people who live here.
Being able to support local families through some of life’s most difficult moments is something I never take for granted. It means a great deal to me to be serving the area where I grew up, went to school, made lifelong friends and built so many memories.

Today I had the privilege of conducting the funeral of a former Cadet Leader.
As I arrived, I noticed two former funeral directors in attendance. No pressure then!
The truth is, many years ago, I learnt a great deal from both of them. Like many people in this profession, I was fortunate to have experienced people around me who were willing to share their knowledge and guidance. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my career.
It was a reminder that we never stop learning and that the standards we strive for today are often built on the experience and support of those who came before us.
Most importantly, today was about honouring a gentleman who had dedicated so much of his life to helping and mentoring young people through the cadet movement. The respect shown by family, friends and former cadets was clear for all to see.
A fitting farewell for a life well lived.
Thank you to the family for placing their trust in us at such an important time.
